Betty, Roseann + Girls :: Three Generations

September 24, 2013

I think the only thing more beautiful than the love of a parent and child is the love between a grandparent and child. It's one of those gifts that life hands us between the hubbub of everyday life. It's also something that sadly goes forgotten or undocumented.

I am so blessed to have been asked by Roseann to spend part of an evening with her mom, Betty, and her two little girls, Emmy and Tenley. They braved high winds, dark clouds and a few raindrops. I'm so glad we stuck it out! For the few minutes of uncomfortable weather, our time together was beautiful.

Betty, Roseann, Emmy and Tenley, thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to capture your love. It's beautiful and inspiring. The four of you have each other's backs and I can't wait to see how that love strengthens and grows in the years to come. Please enjoy your images!

Jason, Leah and Anja :: Family

September 18, 2013

I first met Leah when I was a gawky 15 year old. She's cousins to one of my very best friends, Chantelle, and we spent the weekend camping with their families and a group of girls we went to high school with to celebrate Chantelle's 16th birthday. Two things about me: 1. I am not the biggest camper. 2. I would have to admit as a teenager I was probably more than a little dramatic. We even shared bridesmaid duties when Chantelle got married.

I was so relieved that Leah was able to see past my teenage dramatics and asked if I'd like to come out to her parents farm for a session with her, Jason and their sweet little Anja. I can't be sure, but I'm pretty sure she's part doll. We were even more lucky when Jason's family came along and were able to get some big family photos of both sides.

Leah and Jason, thank you so much for having Brandi and I out. You two and your families made us feel like a part of yours and I am so thankful for having the time to spend with you guys again. To see the two of you with Anja and to see how natural you are at parenting is incredible. She is one very blessed little girl!

Danyel + Ashley :: Engagement

September 10, 2013

Danyel thought Ashley was fiesty, being the only person willing to shotgun a beer with him at their 90's party the first week of their Master's of Physiotherapy program. Ashley thought he seemed cool and fun to hang out with. They bonded over liking to sit at the back of class. Despite what Danyel was told about not getting involved with classmates, Ashley convinced him to give it a shot and they never looked back.

He planned the engagement down to a T. Not long before graduation, Danyel took Ashley to a park overlooking Halifax. Sitting and admiring the view, Danyel casually asked Ashley if she had heard the newest single of her favorite band, the Bouncing Souls. She hadn't and was upset that he heard it first. He started to play it, and she quickly realized it wasn't a new song, but rather a recorded message to her. At the end they said "I think your boyfriend Danyel has something he wants to ask you." As she looked over at him, he was down on bended knee, asking to spend their lives together.

I met up with Danyel and Ashley (and their Oscar) at my parents as they live in the same area. I don't think I've ever met two people who can just look at one another and instantly make the other person HAPPY. Their love for one another is tangible and beautiful. They genuinely enjoy one another, constantly laughing, smiling and teasing.

Ashley and Danyel, thank you so much for letting me witness your love. You are two warm, humble, hilarious people. I cannot wait for your big day! There is nothing better than getting to witness two people become one who admire one another. You're going to have a beautiful life!!
