This is Home :: The Nurkowski Family

October 30, 2011

I am so glad I'm finally able to post this family session! :)

Although I'm glad to post this, there is a part of me that is so sad too. This family session marks the end of my scheduled sessions in Slave Lake for families affected by the wildfires. When I first started the sessions in the summer I went into it thinking that (and I hope no one takes this in an arrogant way) I was going to be helping the families in a very small way. It turns out, they helped me out way more than the other way! Not only have I booked more sessions than ever before, but they have given me an opportunity to keep things in perspective.

If anyone has any opportunity to go to Slave Lake and help families affected (trust me there's plenty of opportunity to help out!!), do it. You won't regret it. The strength that the families demonstrate will definitely make you think twice about taking things for granted in your own life.

I think these sessions ended perfectly. Having a personal connection with them (Kelly works with my dad), I was somewhat nervous. I had no reason to be.

Calvin, Kelly, Tyson and Sarah...again I can't say thank you enough for letting me come and hang out with you guys for a bit. You have a beautiful property and I enjoyed exploring it with you guys. You guys have the rare ability at setting people at ease and I appreciated it more than you will know. You guys are beautiful outside and in, and I hope your photos reflect that.

Thank you so much Nurkowski family!! :)

This is Home :: The Reay Family

October 11, 2011

It was a beautiful evening when I got the chance to meet up with the Reay family. I was thinking of locations, when my dad suggested a little old hotel just outside of town. I wasn't quite sure about it, but agreed to try something a bit out of the ordinary...I'm so glad we did.

Trevor, Marcie, Ridley and Rokan...you are a charming, beautiful family. I loved working with you and seeing you guys get excited over my excitement was the best. :) Thank you for putting all your trust in me. I didn't think we'd get to try out everything I was thinking about, but we did. You guys were patient and accepting as I asked you guys to climb down into the creek, or stand on the railway tracks. You even put up with jokes from not only myself but also my dad.

I hope you think all that paid off when you see these photos, as much as I do.

This is Home :: The Bellefeuille & Hunt Family

October 2, 2011

The past few sessions I've completed have brought back into perspective why I love photography so much. Not that I ever really forgot or anything along those lines, but sometimes (as so many people do in their own lives), we get caught up trying to schedule the next session or completing sessions by deadlines and get lost in the business side of things.

Thank you so much Bellefeuille and Hunt family for being one of those families that brought things around for me! Jeremy, Krista, Austin, Ethan, Madi and Makayla, saying it was a pleasure to work with all of you is an understatement. You are such a wonderful family...I've only met you once but, I know you are great people by seeing how you've taken two wonderful families and joined forces to create this incredible family. I know you have a bounty of great things in store for your big happy family.

Your ability to laugh at one another has allowed you guys to grow and come through a very difficult summer. Thank you for meeting up with me. Thank you for being hams in front of my camera. Thank you for climbing trees and rolling down hills and walking through gushy grass.

Thank you for being you. :)
