This is Home :: The Dickson Family

August 22, 2011

My second family I was able to meet up with while I was on holidays, was the wonderful Dickson family. I love them. :)

Not only do we have a hometown connection (go Canadiens...who am I kidding? I don't have a clue what goes on at a hockey game...I've only gone to visit with friends!)but when we were talking about the wildfire and coming back to town I completely understood what they were saying. They could have just left...picked up stakes and went somewhere where they wouldn't be constantly reminded of the devastation. But in Krista's words, it was their home and the only place her kids knew as home. Their tenacity is remarkable.

Neil, Krista, Chloe and Liam...you are an incredible and beautiful family. I can't thank you enough for dealing with the weather and location change with such understanding and patience, even though I was having a mini panic attack. Neil and Krista, you are raising two wonderful kids in the middle of what I am sure is a hectic and stressful situation. Chloe and Liam, thank you for being my little assistants and lugging props around even when you weren't asked...if you ever need pocket money, call me. :)

This is Home :: The Hartman Family

August 13, 2011

A few weeks ago, I took some time off work and visited my parents for a much needed holiday. It was exactly what I needed. My days were filled with family, fishing, rodeos, and a few sessions with some very impressive families.

Last May, the area where my parents live was ravaged by massive wildfires. Hundreds of people were left houseless, but definitely not homeless or hopeless. Even though there is a very long way to go to get people back in homes and get the community back to where it was before the fires, the spirits of the families I met with were remarkable. You would never know they went through something so disastrous.

The first family I met with were the Hartman's, or as I like to call them, the Beautiful Blue-Eyed Wonders. I have never seen so many big blue eyes looking back at me before.

Jerod, Bobbi, Kennedy, Jacob, Nathan, Luke and Zach thank you so much for allowing me to spend the evening with you. I had so much fun...you guys kept me laughing and ohh-ing and ahh-ing because I knew I was going to love your finished images so very much. Oh, and thanks for letting me know I need to get some new jokes...I'm sure any future kids I meet will thank you guys! ;)

I can't put into words how GORGEOUS this family is...just take a look!

Oh I have to give a huge THANK YOU to my parents and my aunt. Thanks mom and dad for letting me be the boss for a few hours (it actually came kind of natural...hehehe). And auntie, you are the queen of garage sales. You save me so much money and I like the props you get for me way better than anything I've seen online. Thank you!

Have a great weekend everyone!
